The route we took followed the Trans Canada highway except in the following places:

• From Vancouver, we took highway 99 (the sea to sky highway: less traffic than the TransCan, way more painfully steep in a certain section--you'll know it when you get to it--and very scenic. We don't regret that choice at all) to Lilooet;
• We made our way from Lilooet to Kamloops via 97 then 93;
• At Kamloops we took highway 5 in British Columbia to the Yellowhead Pass and come down highway 93 in Alberta into Banff (taking the highly recommended Bow Valley Parkway to Banff);
• Just outside of Sault Ste. Marie in Espanola, we went south on highway 6 across Manitoulin Island where we took a ferry to Tobermory; and
• From there we proceeded along highway 6 to Elora and then headed into Waterloo.
